Campus Safety Task Force Co-Chaired by Dean Johnson Delivers Final Report
A campus safety task force co-chaired by Dean Kevin R. Johnson said in its June 15 final report that future changes to policing at UC Davis should include increased transparency, restorative justice, new approaches to mental health crises, regular review of the arming of police, and ongoing review and dialogue to ensure the campus Police Department is meeting the community’s needs.
Johnson and Vice Chancellor of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Renetta Garrison Tull led the 32-person Task Force on Next Generation Reforms to Advance Campus Safety, convened last year by Chancellor Gary S. May amid a national outcry for police reform after the police killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and others. UC Davis News has more on the task force’s recommendations.
