Calderon '75 Contender for California Assembly Speaker

UC Davis Law alum Charles Calderon '75 is a possible successor to Fabian Núñez as Speaker of the California Assembly. Calderon, a legislative veteran, returned to the Capitol in 2006 after eight years away. The Democrat from Whittier, California previously served in the Assembly from 1982-90 and in the Senate from 1990-98. He now chairs the Assembly's Revenue and Taxation Committee.
King Hall alum Darrell Steinberg '84 recently was elected President Pro Tem of the California State Senate. Consequently, if Calderon becaome Assembly Speaker, two UC Davis School of Law alums will lead the California legislature.
