Brian Schusterman '04 Honored for Pro Bono Work
Brian Schusterman '04 was honored by Sanctuary for Families' Center for Battered Women's Legal Services in New York on October 30, 2006, for his outstanding pro bono work on behalf of indigent victims of domestic violence. Schusterman, an associate with Proskauer Rose LLP, received the honor at the Center's Fourth Annual Sanctuary for Families Associates Committee Benefit.
Sanctuary for Families is the largest nonprofit in New York State dedicated exclusively to serving domestic violence victims and their children. Each year, Sanctuary helps thousands of victims and their children build independent, violence-free lives by offering a range of services to meet their complex needs.
The Sanctuary's Associates Committee (SAC) is a group of young professionals who are committed to combating domestic violence and have joined together to support Sanctuary's work. Over half of the 50 New York law firms that provide pro bono services to Sanctuary clients are represented on SAC. SAC supports Sanctuary by organizing recreational events for Sanctuary clients and their children; holding donation drives to collect much-needed items for Sanctuary clients, including toys for the holidays and household items for clients leaving shelter; and raising funds for Sanctuary through its annual benefit. Sanctuary is deeply indebted to the members of SAC, who provide invaluable services to Sanctuary and to hundreds of victims of domestic violence each year. In the past four years, SAC has raised over $300,000 in support of Sanctuary for Families.
