ASIL Posts On-line Discussion of Textbook by Gary Solis '71
The American Society of International Law (ASIL) has sponsored a discussion of a new textbook by Gary Solis '71 and made the event available for viewing on the ASIL website. In the video, Solis introduces his book, The Law of Armed Conflict: International Humanitarian Law in War, and ASIL members Jamie Williamson, Legal Advisor to the International Committee of the Red Cross, and Dick Jackson, Special Assistant to the Army Judge Advocate General for Law of War Matters and Chair of the Lieber Society, provide commentary.
Solis is a retired U.S. Marine with 26 years active duty, including tours in Vietnam and service as a Marine judge advocate and military judge. He has been awarded many honors, including West Point's 2006 Apgar Award and the Army's Meritorious Civilian Service, Superior Civilian Service, and Outstanding Civilian Service Medals. The Law of Armed Conflict is a product of his West Point instruction and the Law of War seminar he instructs at Georgetown University Law Center. Solis is also the author of Marines and Military Law in Vietnam and Son Thang: An American War Crime.
ASIL is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, educational membership organization founded in 1906 and chartered by Congress in 1950. ASIL holds Category II Consultative Status to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and is a constituent society of the American Council of Learned Societies, and has 4,000 members from nearly 100 nations.
