Alum Sumbul Ali-Karamali Guest Authors on Informed Comment Blog
On August 10, 2008, alum Sumbul Ali-Karamali '89 served as a guest author on Juan Cole's blog Informed Comment: Thoughts on the Middle East, History, and Religion. In her blog post, Ali-Karamali discussed and debunked common misconceptions about Islam and Muslim individuals, combed through the history behind the Shi'a/Sunni conflict within Islam, and explained why dismissing that conflict as inevitable would be taking the easy way out. Ali-Karamali received her L.L.M. in Islamic law from the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies. She is the author of The Muslim Next Door: The Qur'an, the Media, and that Veil Thing.
