Alum Castaños Named New Chair of California Bar Section

Kristen Castaños '98 has been selected as the new chair of the State Bar of California's Environmental Law Section. In pursuit of their aim to provide educational programs, publications, and legislative analysis in the field of environmental law, the section puts on seminars and presentations, distributes a quarterly newsletter and a bi-monthly update, and continuously tracks and reports on legislation relevant to the section's mission. As chair of the environmental law section, Castaños's job will be, in part, keeping efforts coordinated and managing the section's volunteer force.

Since graduating from King Hall, Castaños has remained actively involved with the School of Law. Along with Tina Leahy '98, Castaños gave a presentation to King Hall Outreach Program (KHOP) students this summer, describing the complexities and joys of practicing environmental law. Castaños is a Principal with Stoel Rives LLP in Sacramento, working in the Resources, Development & Environment group, focusing in the areas of water rights, water quality, and the California Environmental Quality Act, among others.

Also on the executive committee of the State Bar's environmental law section are King Hall alums Leahy, Russell B. Hildreth '93, Richard M. Frank '74, Ann Davis '83, and Bruce S. Klafter '80.
