Alison Plenge '09 Accepts Position with War Crimes Research Office

Alison Plenge '09 has accepted a position at the War Crimes Research Office at the American University Washington College of Law in Washington, D.C.  Originally established to work with the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, the WCRO now provides research for a variety of international criminal tribunals engaged in the prosecution of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide, including the International Criminal Court, the Special Court for Sierra Leone, and the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia.

As the Jurisprudence Collections Coordinator, Alison will maintain and improve the Collection by making regular updates, drafting case digests, collecting secondary materials related to cases, identifying gaps in the secondary literature, and exploring ways to fill those gaps.  In addition, she will work on a joint project between the WCRO and the Woman and International Law Program to create a database of jurisprudence relating to sexual and gender-based crimes from international criminal courts and tribunals.  The goal of this project is to provide international tribunals, lawyers, activists, and scholars with the legal research tools needed to ensure that the international criminal courts reduce violence against women by strengthening women's access to transnational justice mechanisms.

Plenge recently completed a one-year international law fellowship at the American Society of International Law in D.C., where she managed the Society's judicial outreach program.  She earned her B.A. from Wesleyan University and her J.D. from King Hall.
