SCBA Bench-Bar Reception 2014

The Sacramento County Bar Association (SCBA) held its annual Bench-Bar Reception this week. Because I was busy with activities related to the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Law Deans' Meeting at King Hall, I was unable to attend the reception.

Senior Assistant Dean Hollis Kulwin was attended, and contributes this guest entry to the Dean’s Blog.

I had a terrific evening at Wednesday’s Sacramento County Bar Association’s Annual Bench-Bar Reception, honoring  Justice Vance Raye as Judge of the Year.  Justice Ray is the Presiding Justice of the Third District Court of Appeal and a good friend of King Hall.  An enthusiastic contingent of King Hall students attended the event and networked with a wide range of Sacramento-area lawyers and judges.  Our own Professor Rex Perschbacher, the Honorable Lawrence G. Brown ’89 and a number of King Hall alumni were there, too.  SCBA President B.J. Susich ’06 welcomed the guests.

As part of the program, King Hall student Samantha Wu ’15 received the Karen Pedersen Stevens Scholarship awarded by the Women Lawyers of Sacramento (WLS).  In her remarks WLS President Maralee Eriksen, said the scholarship goes to a student who best demonstrates an interest in pursuing a legal career in family law and/or has provided significant assistance to women and/or children. Upon awarding the scholarship, she said “Ms. Wu, we look forward to great things from you!”

Samantha, we’re very proud of you—many congratulations on winning this prestigious scholarship!

Thanks for the blog entry, Dean Kulwin. And congratulations, Samantha!
