Introductory Information Sheet

This page is designed to provide you with information about the status of your application for admission as it navigates the various stages of our admission process. Our aim is to provide you with the information you desire and significantly reduce the number of telephone calls we receive requesting a status update. We hope the application status page will help in the following ways:

  1. It should relieve some of the frustration you may experience if you call and have to leave a voicemail, and
  2. Please keep in mind that we expect to receive a large number of applications for admission, roughly a third of which are received in the months of January and February.

Because your status information is being made available very soon after we receive your electronic application, all data entry may not have been completed when you make your initial visits to the status check website. Transfer of data from the LSAC database to ours may require data entry clean-up. DO NOT BECOME ALARMED! If your Current Application Status is Application Received – Processing in Progress, that is your indication that we have not yet completed the initial data entry and data clean-up on your file. If you find an error after that status changes, please contact us by sending an email to admissions@law.ucdavis.edu.

The following should help you understand the status information provided at the site.

  • Status update information is not changed instantaneously. We will update as quickly as possible but there may be a brief delay between the time you provide additional information and the update of your status.
  • We begin making admission decisions as early as November and continue through April.
  • UC Davis utilizes a rolling admissions process. The date an application is submitted will not determine the date a decision is made. It is important, however, that you complete your application as early as possible.
  • Generally, more than a third of all applications are submitted in the months of January and February, and 15%-20% are submitted in the two weeks leading up to the March 15 deadline. Processing that many applications near the deadline will require more time. If you wait until mid-December or January to submit your application, you should expect processing to take longer.
  • Our admission evaluation process is quite complex. We provide a holistic review that includes reading by an admissions officer before the file is sent to the Admission Committee. Some applications are held for several weeks before a final decision is reached. We will update your status and let you know where your application is in the admission process just as soon as that information changes. You should not become concerned if your file remains at one status for several weeks.
  • We communicate decisions via email, the status check site (which will correspond to the date on an unofficial copy of the text of your decision letter), and U.S. mail. The official signed decision letter will have been mailed to you at the same time the decision information is posted to the site (note: due to our current remote workplace, we will not mail individual admission letters and your email is your official notification).

This is a process that relies on people. Please understand that human error in data entry is possible, although we work hard to keep such errors to a minimum. If you find an error, please communicate it by sending an email message to admissions@law.ucdavis.edu and we will look into it. We need your help and definitely your patience to make this work!

Thank you.
