Welcome UC Davis Law Class of 2010!

On August 19, 2007, at 6:00 p.m., UC Davis School of Law faculty, alumni board members, staff, and current students will convene on the banks of Putah Creek to welcome incoming students at a barbecue picnic hosted by the Office of Admissions. Dean Rex Perschbacher, Director of Admissions Sharon Pinkney, and Law Student Association President Sarah Asplin '08 will deliver welcoming remarks at the event.

This year's incoming class showcases the UC Davis School of Law's strong tradition of accepting students displaying academic excellence with a diversity of backgrounds and interests. Currently, 206 students hold seats in the incoming class. Thirteen students have advanced degrees. Women represent 57 percent of the class. Students of color represent 42 percent. Ages range from 19-46, with the average age of 24.

Twenty-three percent of the incoming J.D. students hail from out of state, including a number of East Coast states. Five students are from other countries, which are Iran, Fiji, Singapore, and the Republic of South Korea.

Law study for first-year students begins with Intro Week from Monday, August 20 through Friday, August 24, 2007. In a letter to incoming students, Dean Perschbacher wrote, "Law remains a wonderful gateway to opportunity for you and your classmates. When you join our community of faculty, staff, and students, you will find it friendly, caring, and committed to the highest ethical and intellectual standards in the study and practice of law."

UC Davis School of Law
The School of Law combines a rigorous academic program with strong interdisciplinary studies and pioneering programs in clinical legal education. The three-year curriculum for the juris doctorate degree at UC Davis is challenging and intensive. Specialized work in all major areas of the law is offered.

The Law School at UC Davis was established in 1962 by the UC Regents because of the high demand for a public university legal education. The School, which graduated its first class of 68 in 1969 quickly climbed into the top-tier ranking of nationally accredited law schools, where it remains.

Today, the Law School is regarded as the best law school established in the last 50 years. The School is nationally recognized for its core areas of strength, which include business law, criminal law and procedure, environmental and natural resources law, health care law and bioethics, human rights and social justice law, intellectual property law, international law, and public interest law. In-house clinical programs provide a unique opportunity for law students to work directly on civil rights, family law and domestic violence, prisoners' rights, and immigration law cases.

Despite the School's expanding reputation, nationally and internationally, the School has maintained a commitment to small classes to facilitate faculty-student interaction. The School is noted for the strong community spirit created by its exceptional faculty, diverse student body, and dedicated staff.
