Washington appellate court cites Professor Joslin
The Court of Appeals of the State of Washington cited Professor Courtney Joslin in deciding, in Ponsaran v. Anker (In re Parentage of J.D.W.), that a petition for de facto parentage may proceed to full adjudication under Washington’s de facto parentage statute.
The statute was enacted in 2018 as part of an updated Washington Uniform Parentage Act (WUPA), which is based on the Uniform Parentage Act (2017), for which Joslin served as Reporter.
In its Ponsaran v. Anker decision, the court cited Joslin’s 2017 article "Preface to the UPA" and her 2018 article “De Facto Parentage and the Modern Family.”
Professor Joslin is a scholar in the field of family and relationship recognition, with a particular focus on same-sex and non-marital couples.
