Visiting Professor Deo to receive CAPALF's Emerging Scholar award

Visiting Professor Meera Deo will receive the Eric K. Yamamoto Emerging Scholar Award from the Conference of Asian Pacific American Law Faculty, the organization has announced.

Deo is an associate professor at Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego and director of the Law School Survey of Student Engagement. She is spending the 2018-19 academic year at King Hall. She is an interdisciplinary scholar who utilizes empirical methods to interrogate trends in legal education, institutional diversity, and affirmative action. She is the author of Diversity in Legal Academia, which will be published by Stanford University Press.

The Eric K. Yamamoto Emerging Scholar Award is given, according to the CAPALF, to “an early-career law professor at any law school in the United States who demonstrates outstanding promise.” Yamamoto, a professor at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa William S. Richardson School of Law, is an internationally recognized expert on issues of racial justice.

The award will be presented in October at a joint conference of the CAPALF and Western Law Professors of Color at UNLV in Las Vegas. At the same conference, the CAPALF will present its Professor Keith Aoki Asian Pacific American Jurisprudence Award – which honors the memory of the late UC Davis School of Law professor - to University of North Carolina School of Law Professor Eric Muller.
