Undocumented Student Legal Services Center Draws Coverage from National Law Journal
The Undocumented Student Legal Services Center, a groundbreaking pilot program that will operate out of the UC Davis School of Law Immigration Law Clinic providing legal services to undocumented students at six University of California campuses, is the subject of a news report in the National Law Journal.
The program was announced by University of California President Janet Napolitano on November 21, and has drawn media coverage including an Associated Press article that appeared in numerous newspapers and news websites.
The National Law Journal report quotes both Napolitano and Dean Kevin R. Johnson, who notes that the pilot program is the first attempt to provide legal services across a university system rather than on a single campus.
"We're trying to figure out how best to address the needs of undocumented students at these other campuses," Johnson said. "One of the things these students fear is getting a traffic ticket and ending up in removal proceedings. It's a difficult existence and we want to do what we can to make things a little easier for them."
