Statement on Car Accident Involving Professor Cruz Reynoso

UC Davis School of Law Professor Emeritus and former California State Supreme Court Justice Cruz Reynoso, wife Elaine Rowen Reynoso, and Cruz's grandson are recovering after sustaining injuries in a car accident on Sunday, June 20, while traveling in Virginia.  Their rental car and an SUV were involved in the crash.  Cruz and Elaine Reynoso are resting in serious condition at a Virginia-area hospital.  The grandson sustained minor injuries and has returned to California. 

The Reynoso family wishes to thank the Law School community, friends, and well-wishers for their expressions of kindness.  In a statement, the family said, "The last four days have been extremely difficult, and we want to thank everyone who has offered their love and support.  We continue to be in touch with Justice Reynoso and Elaine during their recovery.  We ask that you respect our privacy in this difficult time."

"All of us at UC Davis School of Law are very concerned about Justice Reynoso and Elaine.  My heart goes out to the Reynoso family.  They are in our thoughts and prayers," said UC Davis School of Law Dean Kevin R. Johnson.  "I've known Cruz Reynoso for more than 20 years.  He is an invaluable member of the Law School community and a dear friend.  Let us hope for a speedy recovery for Cruz and Elaine."
