Slate, NPR Quote Professor Joo About Elizabeth Holmes' Trial

As the fraud trial of Elizabeth Holmes, founder of the failed blood-testing startup Theranos, began last week in San Jose, national and Bay Area media outlets sought insights from Professor Thomas Joo. 

Joo spoke to Slate, NPR and Oakland television station KTVU about the Holmes case after first being quoted by CNN Business along with UC Davis Law adjunct professor George Demos. 

Joo told NPR that if the jury does not believe Holmes intentionally misrepresented the capabilities of her company’s technology, she might be acquitted. 

The jury might think that “she mistakenly had too much faith in her product,” Joo said. “She said false things, but if you say them unintentionally, it’s not a crime.”
