School of Law Professors Contribute to Influential Bill of Rights Book Series

The newly launched Bill of Rights Series from Prometheus Books includes volumes by Professors Alan E. Brownstein and Vikram D. Amar.  The series, which features anthologies edited by law and history professors, intends to break down the Bill of Rights for a lay audience, examining the fundamental debates that make such a document necessary and meaningful. Dean Kevin R. Johnson serves as a member of the series advisory board.

"The Establishment of Religion Clause: The First Amendment: Its Constitutional History and the Contemporary Debate," edited by Brownstein, is the first work in the series.  Amar's book, "Freedom of Speech: The First Amendment: Its Constitutional History and the Contemporary Debate," will appear in December 2008.

Vikram Amar has published in the fields of constitutional law, civil procedure, and remedies. He authors a biweekly column for FindLaw, a leading online provider of legal information. Alan Brownstein, also a leading constitutional law scholar, has published articles related to freedom of speech, autonomy, and the relationship between religion and the state. Kevin Johnson is currently dean, professor of law and Chicana/o studies, and the Mabie-Apallas Public Interest Law Chair at the School of Law. His special interests include immigration law and policy.
