The Mabie Law Library is here to support your summer research. Below you'll find information about two professional development opportunities on Monday, May 11, and research assistance available throughout the summer.

Research Assistant Training

Monday, May 11 | 10 a.m. to noon | Zoom

Are you working as a research assistant for King Hall faculty this summer? Don't miss our specialized training session designed to set you up for success!

The training will be provided by Kristin Brandt and Dean Scivoletto. The first section will include information on paperwork for getting hired and paid, as well as tips for your success as an RA. The bulk of the training will consist of:

  • Developing effective search strategies across legal and multidisciplinary databases
  • Navigating specialized legal research platforms like HeinOnline, Bloomberg Law, and legislative/regulatory databases
  • Using academic databases, open access resources, and library catalogs for comprehensive research
  • Identifying AI tools for scholarly research, their uses, and limitations
  • Evaluating information sources critically

This training is highly recommended for summer RAs, as it will help develop crucial research skills for your summer position. RSVP by May 8 to receive the Zoom link.

AI and the Legal Profession Bootcamp

Get practical skills for using artificial intelligence effectively and ethically in your legal work. Join Legal Research and Writing faculty, law librarians, and practitioners for this two-part AI bootcamp on Monday, May 11.

Part I: Research Smarter: AI Tools for Legal Research

An interactive session with law librarians that will explore how to use AI to find, evaluate, and work with legal sources more efficiently. It will cover:

  • Using AI to enhance and streamline legal research workflows
  • Evaluating AI-generated results for accuracy and reliability
  • Integrating AI tools with traditional legal research platforms
  • Understanding the current landscape of AI research tools available to legal professionals

Part II: AI in the Real World: Perspectives and Practical Strategies from Attorneys

Features recent law graduates and practicing attorneys sharing how AI shows up in their day-to-day work, including:

  • Ethical use and obligations and professional responsibility considerations
  • Practical AI workflows used in real legal settings
  • Hands-on tips for getting started with AI in your own work
  • What employers are expecting (and watching for) from law student professionals
