Public service law summer fellowships awarded to all 74 student applicants

In 2016, University of California President Janet Napolitano started the President’s Public Service Law Fellowship program that provides financial support to University of California law students who pursue public interest and public service opportunities. Through this generous funding from the Office of the President, King Hall is pleased to have been able to award all 74 first- and second- year students who applied for summer fellowships funding to enable them to undertake legal work at non-profit organizations or government agencies this summer.

This includes awarding John Paul Stevens Public Interest Fellowships to three students who demonstrated commitment to public service and the potential for excellence throughout their legal careers: Minda Hickey ’20, East Bay Community Law Center, Lyla Bugara ’20, California Appellate Project and Ian Dougherty ’19, Oasis Legal Services.

This funding for our students will allow them to develop their legal skills while serving the public by working with ACLU of California Center for Advocacy and Policy, Alameda County Public Defender, Children's Law Center of California, Department of Fair Employment and Housing, Federal Public Defenders Eastern District, L.A. Public Defender, Legal Services of Northern California, Orange County Coastkeeper and many others.
