ProPublica quotes Professor Cooper about accelerated deportations of migrant children
Professor Holly Cooper, co-director of the Immigration Law Clinic, told ProPublica on May 18 that the timing is “uncanny” for what appear to be hurried deportations of highly vulnerable migrant children. The escalated enforcement seems to coincide with Judge Dolly Gee's call, in April, for the imminent release of detained migrant children due to COVID-19 health concerns. Gee had ruled in favor of Cooper and other counsel in the Flores settlement agreement, which sets standards for the detention and release of juvenile migrant detainees. Read the story
