Professors Ikemoto, Joslin take part in convening on international commercial surrogacy

On July 16, Professors Lisa Ikemoto and Courtney Joslin attended an in-person convening in Oakland on international commercial surrogacy. The convening was hosted by the Center for Genetics and Society’s Surrogacy360 Project and brought together leading scholars and advocates working on LGBTQ rights and reproductive justice issues domestically and internationally.

The goal of the convening was to discuss policies and practices that will simultaneously support LGBTQ family formation and safeguard the health and rights of surrogates and egg providers who make family formation through surrogacy possible.

Lisa Ikemoto, Martin Luther King, Jr. Professor of Law at UC Davis School of Law, has written extensively on genetic and reproductive technology, the regulation of fertility and pregnancy, and race and gender disparities in health care. Her current work examines emerging issues in regenerative medicine, including stem cell research, and the human tissues market.

Professor Joslin is a scholar in the field of family and relationship recognition, with a particular focus on same-sex and non-marital couples.
