Professors Ikemoto, Joslin address assisted reproductive technology at 'Baby Markets Roundtable'

Professors Lisa Ikemoto and Courtney Joslin spoke May 5 at the “Baby Markets Roundtable” at UC Hastings College of Law in San Francisco.

The event, presented by UC Irvine School of Law and Hastings, gathered scholars, policy makers and others to explore different ways in which families are created, and how laws apply to them.

Professors Ikemoto and Joslin spoke during a session titled “Cutting-edge issues of ART affecting Reproductive Justice.” Professor Joslin addressed developments in the law regarding the parentage of children born through assisted reproductive technology (ART). Professor Ikemoto gave a presentation titled “Assisted Reproductive Technologies, Abortion, and Religious Refusals.”

Lisa Ikemoto, Martin Luther King, Jr. Professor of Law at UC Davis School of Law, has written extensively on genetic and reproductive technology, the regulation of fertility and pregnancy, and race and gender disparities in health care. Her current work examines emerging issues in regenerative medicine, including stem cell research, and the human tissues market.

Professor Joslin is a scholar in the field of family and relationship recognition, with a particular focus on same-sex and non-marital couples.
