Professors Bhagwat, Soucek Speak at Yale Law's Freedom of Expression Scholars Conference

Professors Brian Soucek and Ashutosh Bhagwat were among speakers during the annual Freedom of Expression Scholars Conference, hosted April 29-May 1 by the Floyd Abrams Institute for Freedom of Expression at Yale Law School.

Professor Soucek presented his article “Diversity Statements”; Professor Bhagwat was a commentator on a paper regarding “Equal Speech Protection.”

Professor Soucek’s primary teaching and research interests are antidiscrimination law, civil procedure, constitutional law, and refugee/asylum law. He holds a J.D. from Yale Law School and a Ph.D. from Columbia University. He has clerked for U.S. District Court Judge Mark R. Kravitz in Connecticut, and Judge Guido Calabresi of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.

Ashutosh Bhagwat, Boochever and Bird Endowed Chair for the Study and Teaching of Freedom and Equality, and Martin Luther King Jr. Professor of Law at UC Davis School of Law, is an innovative, broad-ranging, and widely published constitutional law scholar. He is the author of the 2020 book Our Democratic First Amendment (Cambridge University Press).
