Professor Ziegler Talks to CBS Evening News, MSNBC About First Arrests Under Texas Abortion Ban

Professor Mary Ziegler appeared on the CBS Evening News and spoke to MSNBC’s Katy Tur  about the first arrests under Texas’ near-total abortion ban.

Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that Houston-area licensed midwife Maria Rojas and an assistant were arrested in early March. Rojas is accused of performing two illegal abortions and practicing medicine without a license.

“Attorney General Paxton was trying to find someone who was not a licensed physician to argue that providers posed a threat to Texans in general,” Ziegler told CBS News correspondent Janet Shamlian.

Martin Luther King Jr. Professor of Law Mary Ziegler is an expert on the law, history, and politics of reproduction, health care, and conservatism in the United States from 1945 to the present.
