Professor West Quoted on Gender Inequities in State Government by Sacramento Bee

Professor Martha S. West commented for the Sacramento Bee on the gap between the wages of men and women who work in California's government. An investigation by the Bee found that women who work in the State Capitol make significantly less than men doing comparable jobs.

"The political environment is no different than the corporate environment, the legal environment, or the university environment," said West. "The higher you go up in an organization, the more men you are going to find at higher rates of pay. This portrait of the Legislature is the same."

Professor Emeritus West taught courses on Employment Discrimination, Labor Law, and Sex-based Discrimination at UC Davis School of Law. Her research has focused on discrimination against women faculty in higher education.
