Professor Ventry Discusses Taxation of Married vs. Unmarried Families
Professor Dennis Ventry discussed the tax policy plans of presidential hopefuls Barrack Obama and John McCain at an event for the Alternatives to Marriage Project (AtMP) in Washington D.C., on October 2, 2008. Ventry examined the legal treatment of families in which a couple is married versus families in which there is no recognized marriage, as well as the taxation of opposite-sex married couples versus that of domestic partners and same-sex married couples in California.
The Alternatives to Marriage Project (AtMP) is a national nonprofit organization advocating for equality and fairness for unmarried people, including those who are single, choose not to marry, cannot marry, or live together before marriage.
Ventry, a professor at UC Davis School of Law, is an expert in on tax policy and has written extensively on the subject. His special interests include family taxation, legal ethics and professional standards, tax history, tax compliance and administration, and public finance.
