Professor Ventry Comments on Trump Tax Plan for WJLA
Professor Dennis Ventry commented for WJLA, Washington, D.C.'s ABC network television station, on Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's tax plan. The plan, which Trump claims will provide tax relief for the middle class, simplify the tax code, and grow the economy without adding to the deficit, is a "weird mix of populism, demagoguery, and self-interest," Ventry said.
Ventry said that although more details would be needed before the full impacts of the plan could be known, the proposed tax cuts would be certain to increase budget deficits. "It's a weird mix of proposals," said Ventry "but these plans at the end of the day are going to blow a hole in the budget."
Professor Ventry also provided a summary of Trump's proposal in a poem, "Donald Dust," that is available on the King Hall Faculty Blog.
Professor Ventry is an expert in tax policy and legal ethics. His research interests include tax expenditure analysis, family taxation, professional responsibility and standards of care, tax filing and administration, tax compliance, public finance, and tax and legal history.
