Professor Ventry Comments for Tax Notes on Republican Candidate Tax Plans

Professor Dennis Ventry commented for a Tax Notes article on the tax proposals outlined by Republican presidential candidates. 

"The obvious shared theme among the proposals is sharp tax cuts that will magically boost the economy to unseen heights," Ventry said, and the "equally magical" belief that Congress would act to close loopholes and help pay for what threaten to be "guaranteed and gargantuan revenue losses."

Donald Trump, Ventry said, attempts to sprinkle "Donald Dust" in voters' eyes so that they believe his plan "will not add trillions of dollars to the deficit, raise interest payments on our national debt, or slow the economy but rather [would] double the rate of economic growth from the present rate of 3 percent to 6 percent."

Professor Ventry is an expert in tax policy and legal ethics. His research interests include tax expenditure analysis, family taxation, professional responsibility and standards of care, tax filing and administration, tax compliance, public finance, and tax and legal history. In addition, he was recently added as a co-author on the casebook, Federal Income Taxation with Paul McDaniel, Martin McMahon, Jr., and Daniel L. Simmons.
