Professor Soucek Writes Amici Brief After Sixth Circuit Decision on Misgendering of Student

An amici brief written by Professor Brian Soucek and Pace University Professor Darren Rosenblum asks the Sixth Circuit to reconsider its recent decision holding that academic freedom protected a professor who insisted on misgendering one of his students in class.

The brief was filed May 14 on behalf of 101 law professors, including UC Davis School of Law Professors Raquel Aldana, Ashutosh Bhagwat, William S. Dodge, Christopher Elmendorf, Jasmine Harris, Lisa Ikemoto, Aaron Tang and Dennis J. Ventry, Jr., and Professor Emeritus Alan Brownstein.   Read the brief.

Professor Soucek’s primary teaching and research interests are antidiscrimination law, civil procedure, constitutional law, and refugee/asylum law. He holds a J.D. from Yale Law School and a Ph.D. from Columbia University. He has clerked for U.S. District Court Judge Mark R. Kravitz in Connecticut, and Judge Guido Calabresi of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
