Professor Soucek Honored in Society for Aesthetics Essay Contest

Professor Brian Soucek placed second in the Society for Aesthetics Junior Scholars Essay Contest. The American Society for Aesthetics is the leading professional organization for philosophers of art. The essay contest marks the organization's 75th anniversary. Soucek's essay, "Bringing Aesthetics to Court," asks whether philosophy and the law are concerned with the same questions when they look at art and aesthetic value.

Professor Soucek holds a JD from Yale Law School and a PhD from Columbia University. He has clerked for U.S. District Court Judge Mark. R. Kravitz in Connecticut, and Judge Guido Calabresi of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. His primary teaching and research interests are antidiscrimination law, civil procedure, constitutional law, and refugee/asylum law.
