Professor Shanske Publishes Commentary on California Budget Crisis
Professor Darien Shanske has published an invited commentary on California's fiscal situation on the website of California Forward, a California governmental reform group.
In the article, Shanske reviews "Financing the Future," a series of reports by California Forward, and emphasizes two points about the state's fiscal situation: "The explicit takeaway is that, despite considerable progress, California's fiscal crises have not gone away. They will return. The second, implicit, takeaway is that none of the fiscal reforms on the table - either singly or together - address the scale of the challenges that we face and that we are currently ignoring as best we can."
Darien Shanske is a Professor of Law at UC Davis. His academic interests include taxation, particularly state and local taxation, local government law, public finance, and political theory, particularly jurisprudence.
