Professor Saucedo Speaks on Obama Immigration Plan at ABA Midyear Meeting

Professor Leticia Saucedo participated in a panel discussion on "The Pros and Cons of the Exercise of Executive Action in Immigration Law" at the American Bar Association's Midyear Meeting on February 7 in Houston, Texas.  The panel was hosted by the American Bar Association Commission on Hispanic Legal Rights and Responsibilities (ABA Hispanic Commission) in collaboration with the ABA Commission on Immigration.

The panelists explored President Obama's recent executive action providing temporary legal status to certain undocumented immigrants. Panelists discussed the impact of this decision and how the pending lawsuits against the President will impact implementation. Professor Saucedo spoke about the constitutional roots of the President's authority and described past instances of such executive action in immigration law history.  Other panelists included Thomas A. Saenz, President and General Counsel of the Mexican American Legal Defense & Educational Fund and Michael Olivas, law professor at the University of Houston Law Center.
