Professor Sarkar addresses immigration in talks at Chilean universities

Professor Shayak Sarkar gave talks at two universities in Chile last week on immigration issues in the United States, including ongoing litigation tied to California’s “sanctuary” legislation, and efforts by the city of Huntington Beach, Calif., to act independently of that state legislation.

Professor Shayak’s visit was part of long-term partnerships between UC Davis School of Law and two prominent Chilean law schools, Pontificia Católica Universidad and Universidad de Chile, as well as other legal institutions. The International Law Programs sponsored the visit and worked closely with Jorge Rojas, a King Hall alum and Chilean appellate judge in Santiago, to make the visit a success.

Sarkar spoke at Universidad de Chile in conjunction with the university’s Human Rights Institute, and at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile as part of a conference addressing immigration in the United States and Chile.

Shayak Sarkar's scholarship addresses the structure and legal regulation of inequality. His substantive interests lie in financial regulation, employment law, immigration, and taxation.
