Professor Pruitt addresses rural lawyer shortage at Rural Sociological Society meeting

On Aug. 10, Professor Lisa Pruitt gave a presentation titled “Strategies for Alleviating the Rural Lawyer Shortage: Lessons from California to Maine” at the Rural Sociological Society annual meeting in Richmond, Va.

This presentation was part of a panel about rural access to justice that in turn was part of a series of panels sharing the heading "A Rural Lawline as a Rural Lifeline," all exploring the intersection of rural livelihoods with law and legal processes.

Lisa R. Pruitt, Martin Luther King Jr. professor at UC Davis School of Law, is a scholar whose recent work explores the legal relevance of rural spatiality, including how it inflects dimensions of gender, race, and ethnicity.  Pruitt's work also considers rural-urban difference in transnational and international contexts.
