Professor Patel addresses 'common ownership' in Columbia Law School presentation

On Sept. 22, Professor Menesh Patel presented his paper “Common Ownership: Do Managers Really Compete Less?” virtually for Columbia Law School.

Written jointly with Merritt Fox of Columbia Law, Patel’s paper evaluates a seminal issue in modern antitrust: whether the rise of institutional shareholding is generating competitive harm in violation of antitrust law, a phenomenon known as “common ownership.” Patel previously has written on the common ownership issue and has commented on the topic before both the Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division and at hearings conducted by the Federal Trade Commission.

Professor Menesh Patel joined the UC Davis faculty in 2018. His primary research interests include antitrust, corporate law, securities regulation, and capital markets. Prior to UC Davis, he was a fellow at Columbia Law School and Columbia Business School and practiced law at Sidley Austin LLP.
