Professor Lin Quoted in Bloomberg News on Environmental Regulation

Professor Albert Lin commented for Bloomberg News on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's plan to extend protections to ponds and streams that have a "significant nexus" with navigable waterways.  The proposal has drawn criticism from those who fear it would undermine property rights and slow development, but the EPA claims it is necessary in order to clarify guidelines regarding the government's ability to regulate smaller bodies of water.

Lin said that part of the criticism stems from the difficulty of defining precisely which bodies of water can be regulated.  "Farmers would love for the EPA to say, 'All ditches are off limits,' but that's not going to happen," Lin said.

Albert Lin is a professor at the UC Davis School of Law with special interests in environmental law, natural resources law, and evidence.
