Professor Lee presents at Intellectual Property Scholars Conference at DePaul

On Aug. 9, Professor Peter Lee presented a work-in-progress titled “Innovation Consolidation: Industry Concentration and the Commercialization of Intellectual Property” at the Intellectual Property Scholars Conference at DePaul University College of Law in Chicago.

The paper explores various economic forces, including and beyond exclusive rights that produce a high degree of consolidation in industries that commercialize patents and copyrights, such as biopharmaceuticals, agricultural biotechnology, software, film production and distribution, music recording, and publishing. The paper also examines the normative implications of such concentration and suggests policy reforms to mitigate their excesses.

Professor Lee's scholarly work addresses the intersection of science and society, particularly exploring the patent system's impact on scientific and technological progress.
