Professor Larson to discuss baby-name law with writer/performer after S.F. show

Professor Carlton F.W. Larson will join writer and performer Irma Herrera for a discussion after a performance of her one-woman show “Why Would I Mispronounce My Own Name?” on Nov. 3 at the Marsh Theater in San Francisco.

The theater is promoting Herrera’s show as an exploration of the “minefield of misplaced notions – comical, sad, demeaning,” regarding given names. Larson, author of the 2011 article “Naming Baby: The Constitutional Dimensions of Parental Naming Rights,” (George Washington Law Review) will discuss the law governing baby names with Herrera after the show, which starts at 5 p.m.

Carlton Larson's research interests focus on constitutional law and legal history, with a strong emphasis on the 18th century.
