Professor Joslin testifies on behalf of parental-rights bill for same-sex couples

On June 26, Professor Courtney Joslin testified in support of AB 2684 before the California Senate Judiciary Committee.

Professor Joslin helped draft AB 2684, which seeks to ensure that California’s parentage rules apply equally to children born to same-sex couples. The Senate Judiciary Committee approved the bill by a 6-1 vote.

The bill incorporates portions of the Uniform Parentage Act (2017), for which Professor Joslin served as Reporter.

AB 2684 was authored by Assemblyman Richard Bloom (D-Santa Monica). AB 2684 is co-sponsored by the National Center for Lesbian Rights and Equality California.

The bill now awaits a vote by the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Professor Joslin is a scholar in the field of family and relationship recognition, with a particular focus on same-sex and non-marital couples.
