Professor Joslin speaks at symposium on foster care referral case

Professor Courtney Joslin spoke at an online University of Virginia School of Law symposium on Jan. 22 as a part of a daylong examination of the current U.S. Supreme Court case Fulton v. City of Philadelphia. “Fulton, Faith, Families and Foster Care” was a presentation of the law school’s Family Law Center.

In the case, argued in November, Catholic Social Services is challenging the city of Philadelphia’s refusal to refer foster children to the religious organization because it won’t certify same-sex couples as foster parents. Professor Joslin was a commentator for the panel that addressed “What Is or Should Be the Future of Foster Care, Religion and LGBT Law?”

Professor Joslin is a scholar in the field of family and relationship recognition, with a particular focus on same-sex and non-marital couples.
