Professor Jorjani Trains Arizona Judges on Padilla Impact

Professor Raha Jorjani spoke to a group of Arizona Family and Criminal Court judges and administrators on "The Impact of Federal Immigration Law on the State Courts" in a training session organized by the National Center for State Courts and the Center for Public Policy Studies on November 9 in Phoenix, Arizona.  Professor Jorjani focused on the impact of Padilla v. Kentucky, the 2010 U.S. Supreme Court ruling that the lawyer for a non-citizen charged with a crime has a constitutional obligation to tell the client of the possible risks of deportation that may be associated with a guilty plea. 

Raha Jorjani is a staff attorney in the Immigration Law Clinic at the UC Davis School of Law with a special interest in advocacy on behalf of detained immigrants and the intersections between criminal and immigration law.
