Professor Joo Comments on U.S. Supreme Court Decision for Bee
Professor Thomas Joo commented for the Sacramento Bee on the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to remove federal rules governing corporate contributions to political campaigns. In a 5-4 decision, the Court reversed a 1990 ruling that upheld a federal ban on corporate campaign spending, opening the door to increased campaign spending by corporations, unions, and special interest groups.
"People say it's going to help Republicans because corporations like Republicans, and to some extent that's true," Professor Joo said. "But it's really going to help corporations. Whether you're a Democrat or a Republican, if you miss out on this money, you're going to be at a great disadvantage."
Thomas Joo is a Professor of Law with the UC Davis School of Law. His scholarship focuses on corporate governance and race and the law.
