Professor Joh Publishes Commentary on DNA Evidence on Economist.com
Professor Elizabeth Joh published a commentary on "The ethics of DNA databasing" in the "Economist Debates," a feature of The Economist magazine's website. In the article, Professor Joh notes the usefulness of DNA evidence to law enforcement, but raises questions regarding the ways DNA evidence is collected and used.
"There is an ever-increasing reliance by governments on the use of DNA evidence in criminal investigations, and this is a welcome development for the enforcement of law and the accuracy of convictions," she writes. "But we are now at a moment when the legal, ethical and social questions have outpaced thoughtful and detailed regulation. Perhaps the best question to be asked is: in what circumstances are people's DNA sequences their business?"
