Professor Joh Comments for USA Today on FBI Child Pornography Investigation
Professor Elizabeth Joh commented for USA Today on an FBI investigation of what it described as one of the internet's largest child pornography websites. The FBI continued to operate the website after the agency took control of it, allowing images of child pornography to be distributed as part of an effort to identify site users.
"At some point, the government investigation becomes indistinguishable from the crime, and we should ask whether that's OK," said Joh. "What's crazy about it is who's making the cost/benefit analysis on this? Who decides that this is the best method of identifying these people?"
Professor Joh's scholarship focuses on criminal procedure and policing, with a special emphasis on DNA evidence, undercover policing, and new surveillance technologies.
