Professor Joh Comments on Surveillance Technology for Ars Technica
Professor Elizabeth Joh commented for Ars Technica on the case of a Maryland man whose home was robbed after criminals used a GPS tracker to follow him from a casino. In a strange twist, the man's car also carried an additional GPS tracker installed by a private detective hired by his wife. After the robbery, one of the robbers was identified using DNA evidence gathered by police, lending another layer of high-tech surveillance to the story.
"This mundane surveillance warfare, if you like, among the perpetrators, the suspicious spouses, and ultimately the police (DNA swabs) nicely sums up the world we live in today," said Joh.
Professor Joh's scholarship focuses on criminal procedure and policing, with a special emphasis on DNA evidence, undercover policing, and new surveillance technologies.
