Professor Joh Comments for The Recorder on Drone Surveillance Bill Veto

Professor Elizabeth Joh commented for The Recorder on California Governor Jerry Brown's veto of AB 1327, a bill that would have required police agencies to obtain a warrant before using drone surveillance absent exigent circumstances. John said that the bill's defeat leaves the regulation of drone use by police to local jurisdictions and will likely lead to many court challenges.

"What's really happened with Governor Brown's veto is essentially letting local governments have a say and ultimately kicking this issue to the courts," Joh said.

Professor Joh's scholarship focuses on criminal procedure and policing, with a special emphasis on DNA evidence, undercover policing, and new surveillance technologies.
