Professor Joe writes opinion piece for The Atlantic, 'Defend the Public Defenders'

Professor Irene Oritseweyinmi Joe, a former New Orleans public defender, writes in a March 13 opinion piece for The Atlantic that “A public defender’s ability to hold on to their job should not depend on the same people they challenge in court.” The piece is headlined “Defend the Public Defenders.” Read the essay.

Irene Oritseweyinmi Joe’s scholarship focuses on the ethics of criminal justice. She graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Austin, and earned her J.D. from Stanford Law School. She clerked for the Honorable Napoleon Jones of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.
