Professor Joe trains attorneys in voir dire in Fresno

On April 17, Professor Irene Oritseweyinmi Joe traveled to California Eastern District Court in Fresno to train Criminal Justice Act Panel attorneys on voir dire.

Professor Joe conducted the training for CJA Panel attorneys (qualified, court-approved attorneys eligible for appointment by the court to represent criminal defendants who cannot afford counsel) at the behest of Federal Defender Peggy Sasso.

The training event drew 40 attorneys, some of them CJA attorneys, others current federal defenders. Attendees included King Hall alumni Hope Alley ’16 and Federal Defender Charles Lee ’02, Fresno’s Branch Chief.

Joe has been asked to do a number of additional voir dire trainings, including two this summer, in Los Angeles and San Antonio.

Professor Joe teaches Criminal Law, Professional Responsibility, Voir Dire, and Criminal Trials: Theory and Practice, at King Hall. She has significant experience in criminal litigation proceedings, with prior experience representing indigent defendants in capital post-conviction litigation and children sentenced to life in prison without the opportunity for parole.
