Professor Jack Chin Delivers Keynote at University of Houston Law Center

Professor Chin delivered a lecture, "Still a Nation of Immigrants? Rethinking Immigration Policy in the Modern Era" at the University of Houston Law Center. Chin was the keynote speaker for the Yale L. Rosenberg Memorial Lecture.

Chin discussed the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, which helped eliminate discrimination against immigrants of various faiths and ethnicities. He also provided insight into the current controversies surrounding immigration and race in the United States.

"The way that I understand the moment we are in now is that this is the first time when both the people of the United States and the political elites who passed the 1965 immigration act will evaluate immigration policy and decide whether we're a white nation or not. I believe that it's going to come out against racism and in favor of economic development."

Gabriel "Jack" Chin is Martin Luther King, Jr. Professor of Law and holder of the Edward L. Barrett, Jr. Endowed Chair at UC Davis School of Law. He is a prolific and much-cited criminal and immigration law scholar whose work has addressed many of the most pressing social issues of our time.
