Professor Imwinkelried to Write Chapter for Encyclopedia of Forensic and Legal Medicine

Elsevier Publishing Company is preparing a new edition of the international treatise, The Encyclopedia of Forensic and Legal Medicine. The treatise will include articles from scholars and practitioners from throughout the world. The editors have chosen Professor Emeritus Ed Imwinkelried to write the chapter devoted to scientific evidence in the United States. Professor Imwinkelried 's chapter traces the evolution of the American test for the admissibility of scientific evidence from the FRYE general acceptance standard to the now dominant Daubert validation/reliability standard. The chapter discusses the immediate impact of the Supreme Court's 1993 Daubert decision and the longer term impacts that Daubert is now having. The chapter points out that while in the post-Daubert era the courts initially focused on the foundational validity of expert methodologies, the courts are now concentrating on narrower issues such as the requirement for a showing of validity as applied, discussed in the 2016 report of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

Professor Imwinkelried is a world-renowned evidence expert who has published extensively in the field.
