Professor Imwinkelried Teaches at China University of Political Science and Law

Between March 16-27, Professor Edward Imwinkelried taught a course at the Institute on Evidence and Forensic Science at China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) in Beijing. The attendees were graduate students from CUPL and other law schools in Beijing. 

The subject of the course was the American criminal trial.  Professor Imwinkelried initially introduced the students to the basic concepts of American trial strategy such as the development of a theory of the case.  He then reviewed the strategy, tactics, and procedures for the various trial stages, including jury selection, opening statement, direct examination, cross-examination, closing argument, jury instructions, and trial motions. 

This is the second course that Professor Imwinkelried has taught at CUPL.  Several years ago he taught a course on scientific evidence at the institute.

For several years King Hall has had a cooperative relationship and exchange program with CUPL.  CUPL is one of the most prestigious law schools in China and, in particular, enjoys the reputation at the foremost Chinese institution in Evidence scholarship.
